Life’s Seasoning

Adding your own seasoning affects God’s Will for your LIfe

When cooking you add a little bit of salt, pepper and other seasoning to the meal. You taste it and realize its not seasoned enough. So you add some more seasoning and you then realized that you put in too much seasoning? You didn’t follow the instructions. What do you do to fix it?

Have you ever had a problem where you tried to solve it, and it still was not solved? Then you try something else, and that didn’t work? Then you decide to pray to God about it, and the problem is still there! You call on God again, and the problem is still there! Now you may ask, “God, Why and When?”

Well, God had the solution worked out but you decided to solve it yourself before its time, thereby increasing the problem rather than resolving it. God now has to undo your do so His Will for you can be revealed. God has to clean up your mess thereby delaying the solution.

I must admit that I too am guilty of adding my on seasoning (reasoning) to the situation on more than one occasion. It has added to my anxieties and increased my stress. To release control is at times difficult for me. Sometimes I just do not want to bother God with the small stuff but God says bring it all to him.

Remember the biblical story about Abraham and Sarah.  Genesis 16:3-6. God promised them a son. This son would be the ancestor of a mighty nation. Sarah became impatient and ask Hagar (her handmaid) to have a child with Abraham. Then Sarah gave birth to Issac. Problems arose between Sarah and Hagar.  Sarah became jealous of Hagar’s son (Ishmael)and asked Abraham to send them away.

Remember the biblical story about Leah and Rachel. Genesis 29:13-35 – chpt 30. Jacob wanted to marry Rachel but the father wanted his first daughter to be married first. He made a promise to Jacob and then reneged on it. He promised Rachel to Jacob but after Jacob held up his side of the contract, Laban made Jacob take Leah first. Then he gave Jacob another promise and after Jacob held up his side of the contract, Laban gave Jacob Rachel. Now Jacob has two wives who are sisters. A problem arose between the sisters. Jacob was destined to marry Rachel but their father intervened and caused problems for his daughters.

David, a man after God’s heart lusted after a married woman, impregnated her and found himself in a situation. He chose to solve the problem by placing her husband on the front line of war to be killed. This may have solved the problem with the husband, but now he is a murderer. He later asked for God’s forgiveness. Imagine if God was counseled first, her husband would be still alive and David would not be a murderer.

There are many stories in the Bible where people could not wait on God and wanted to resolve the problems themselves. God was there at the beginning of the problem, in the midst of it, and at the end of it. Because of our meddling, God has to fix what we messed up.

God says seek His kingdom and righteousness first and all these things will be added unto you. Matt 6:33. Jesus says, “Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matt 11:29. Wait upon the Lord, be strong… I say, Wait! Ps 27:14.

Remember, you are going to have life challenges that will require your attention. Some of you will have the wits to handle it, others will apply emotions rather than wits. Rather than adding your own seasoning, Ask God. After you have had a conversation with God, Wait for his instructions. Wait!

When you have experienced God’s Will, Blessings and Favor in your life, you will want no one else. “Oh taste and see that the Lord is Good.” Ps 34:8
